I’ve realized in the last few months that I’ve been putting on weight… and I don’t like it. Also, I’ve gotten super-weak since I’ve come to college – I used to be able to do a ridiculous amount of push-ups and sit-ups in a row, and now I can barely do ten push-ups. I thought it was hopeless for me, but I’ve discovered some awesome healthy things in the last few weeks!
- Running. I’ve rediscovered my love of running, like I tend to do every summer. Even though I’ve been doing a lot of my weekday running in the afternoon when it’s hot, I love it. I’ve been running around 15 miles or so during the week, then my long runs on the weekend. I’m also stepping it up with an additional mid-distance run over the weekend, so I hope that helps my mileage base. For me, it’s just a super-relaxing time where I can also push my body to do great things. I’ve taken to running without any noise during the week, then my podcast and occasionally music on the weekends.
- Other workouts. I’ve taken to doing a little bit of circuit training, nothing too intense. At least, not yet. It’s really helped my confidence when it comes to what my body can do. It’s got me back into doing push-ups and the like, and I’ve discovered that it just takes a little bit of work to get back into shape. I’m nowhere near the kind of shape I was in my senior year of high school, but I’m on my way.
- Food tracking. I haven’t necessarily been tracking all of my calories, though I have been inputting into MyFitnessPal more than I have in the past. I’ve just been writing down every food that I eat throughout the day, and it causes me to pause when I want to just grab a snack. I kind of think to myself, “Is it worth having to write this down, or can I just skip it?” It’s been doing wonders for me.
- NerdFitness. I’ve loved NerdFitness for the last few months, and I took the plunge and signed up for the NerdFitness Academy. It was at the lowest price offered, and the price was going to increase, so I jumped for it. It’s been really awesome, even though I haven’t been a part of it for that long. The community surrounding it is great, even though I really haven’t been active on the boards all that much. I made my first post on the Facebook group the other day, so that was exciting. I love the modules that it gives, even though it can sometimes be a little confusing for me to try to figure out. It’s really been getting me to think about my habits and about what I’m eating and how I’m exercising, and I think that’s what I needed. It’s sometimes really hard for me to just stop and think about what I’m doing.
Overall, I think that I might be back on track to getting healthy. I’d like to drop some weight, build some muscles, and try to eat even healthier. Even though it can be hard, I know that I can do it – it’s just going to be a matter of the effort that I put in.
